Durango's Countertop Specialists

CountertopFabrication
& Installation

At Tile and Light Art of Durango, we fabricate and install countertops for homeowners, builders, and remodelers across Durango and the Four Corners. Every project runs through our own shop, from slab selection to final polish, so we control the precision, the timeline, and the finish.

Fabricated In-House in Durango

Every countertop we install is fabricated in our own Durango shop on American-built Park Industries equipment. Our newest addition is a SPARTAN CNC router, a machine purpose-built for sink cutouts, precision seam work, and fully processed exterior edges.

What that means for your project:

  • → Sink openings that fit cleanly.
  • → Seams you have to look for.
  • → Edge profiles that match from one end of the run to the other.
  • → Work that used to take our team hours by hand now finishes in minutes.
Faster fabrication means a shorter gap between template and install, and less time living around an unfinished kitchen.

Professional Measurement and Installation

Fabrication is only half of it. Our installers handle every step of the process, from digital templating to the final set, so your countertops fit the way they were drawn. Whether it is a single vanity or a full custom kitchen, we work to a schedule you can plan around and leave you with surfaces built to last.

A Cleaner, Safer Shop

For more than 15 years we have run a fully wet fabrication shop, cutting and polishing stone under water to minimize airborne silica dust. Protecting the health of our fabrication and installation team has never been optional here.
In 2025 we added a Park Industries HydroClear PRO 95, a closed-loop water recycling system rated to cut water consumption by as much as 90%. It captures stone particulate before it ever reaches the drain, keeps our shop floor cleaner, and reflects how we think a stone shop should operate in a place like Southwest Colorado, where water is not something you waste.

  • → One of the largest material selections in the Four Corner

Quartz

Quartz countertops are engineered stone surfaces made of about 90% to 94% natural quartz crystals bound with resins and pigments, offering high durability and zero required sealing.

Key Benefits

  • → Stain & Bacteria Resistance: Resists staining from coffee, wine, or juice and prevents bacterial or mold growth.
  • → Low Maintenance: Never requires sealing, waxing, or polishing; simple cleanup with mild soap and warm water is enough.
  • → Exceptional Strength: Highly resistant to everyday scratching, chipping, cracking, and impact.

Main Characteristics

  • → Composition: Manufactured by combining hard-ground quartz with polymer resins and color pigments.
  • → Non-Porous Surface: Lacks microscopic pores, meaning liquids and oils stay on top rather than sinking in.
  • → Design Consistency: Uniform colors and patterns from slab to slab, unlike unpredictable natural stones.
  • → Aesthetic Variety: Available in vast styles mimicking marble or concrete, with steady pattern matching for seams.

Natural Stone

Natural stone countertops offer unmatched organic beauty, exceptional heat resistance, and long-term durability that can increase a home’s resale value.

Key Benefits:

  • → Heat Resistance: Natural stone surfaces withstand high temperatures well, making them resilient against hot cookware.
  • → Longevity: With proper cleaning and routine maintenance, stone counters last for decades without losing their structural appeal.

Main Characteristics

  • → Unique Appearance: Quarried directly from the earth, no two slabs share the exact same pattern, color, or veining.
  • → Hardness & Durability: Materials like granite and quartzite rank extremely high on the hardness scale, resisting scratches and cracks from daily kitchen use.
  • → Porosity: Most natural stones (like granite, marble, and quartzite) are porous to some degree and require periodic sealing to block moisture and stains, though alternatives like soapstone are naturally denser.

Porcelain

Porcelain countertops are durable, ultra-compact surfaces made by firing natural clays and minerals at very high temperatures.

Key Benefits

  • → Heat Resistance: You can place hot pots and pans directly onto a porcelain surface without scorching or damaging it.
  • → Low Maintenance: Porcelain is completely non-porous, meaning it never needs to be sealed and resists bacteria growth.
  • → Stain and Chemical Resistance: Spills like wine, coffee, and lemon juice—or harsh household cleaners like bleach—won’t stain or alter the material.
  • → UV Light Resistance: Sunlight will not fade or discolor porcelain, making it ideal for outdoor kitchens.
  • → Scratch Resistance: The hard, dense surface resists scratches from everyday kitchen use.

Main Characteristics

  • → Appearance: Available in large-format slabs that can mimic natural stone (like marble or granite), concrete, or wood.
  • → Weight: Thinner porcelain slabs are lighter than traditional granite or quartz, allowing for flexible installation.
